Sector coupling – but how?
A workshop on the topic of “Cross-sector planning of energy systems – the basis for a sustainable energy supply” took place in Dresden on September 26, 2025, with experts from energy suppliers, municipalities, and various scientific institutions. The lively discussion demonstrates that we have addressed a highly topical issue with the workshop. The focus in the future will be on data acquisition and data interpretation for the reliable design of energy systems. AI methods in particular will make a significant contribution, which will also have a strong impact on the research landscape. It is foreseeable that digitalization and traditional energy technology will merge, which will also create new career opportunities for engineers.
